US indie-folk band The Decemberists hits Kickstarter with its own board game

American folk rock band, The Decemberists has taken to the medium of Kickstarter to launch its own board game.

Called Illimat, the game is a joint venture between the band famous for its indie hit Mariner’s Revenge Song and the award-winning game designer Keith Baker.

Famed for his own work with Dungeons and Dragons, Baker has been brought on board to develop the project that took inspiration from a fake prop board game created in 2009 for one of the band’s photoshoots.

Illimat has been described as a quick to pick up and play game that can be completed in 15 minutes and taps into the group’s ritualistic board game playing before going on stage.

With 29 days still to go on the Kickstarter platform, Illimat has already surpassed its goal of $42,812 with a total of $123,480 and counting.
