US: Walmart reveals its top 25 toys for Christmas 2016

Star Wars, Doc McStufins and Barbie have all topped the list of US retail giant Walmart’s top toy picks for Christmas 2016.

The retailer – championed as the US’ biggest single toy seller – has revealed its top 25 toys predictied to bring in the big money as it heads into its annual battle with Toys R Us and Amazon this holiday season.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mega Lair Playset features among this year’s favourites, alongside a Disney Princess Carriage and a Num Noms Lip Gloss Truck.

Hatchimals, Little Live Pets Puppy and the Barbie Rainbow Cove Princess Castle Playset lend the list its cute factor, while the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Batcave, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Remote Control Skateboarding Mikey and Star Wars Electronic R2D2 promise to deliver the action.

Six of the top 25 toys will be exclusive to Walmart who boasts more than 400 toys exclusively available at its stores, including Star Wars Black Series collector figures and the Barbie Camping Collection.

The list arrives as industry analysts The NPD Group estimate US toy revenue growth of 7.5 per cent in the first half of 2016.

Coupled with the upcoming release of Disney’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story this December and the latest NPD data suggesting that movie-inspired toy sales have soared by 9.4 per cent, the retailer is predicting a big year for the Star Wars brand in particular.
