Deej Johnson, creative consultant and the author of The Little Book of Bananagrams, will be presenting a talk on the dos, don’ts and potential pitfalls when it comes to writing those all important game instructions.
Johnson, who is also brand guardian at DMI Productions, predominantly uses his writing and consultancy skills in the board-game and media-production industries, with toy clients including Bananagrams, Accentuate, Playtime PR, Ooba Toys and Sussed.
"Designers and innovators sometimes ask me the best way to get a foothold on the toy and game industry… I always bang on about the Inventors Workshop," said Johnson. "You needn’t look further than that for useful connections, skilful people and helpful advice.
"This year, I’m looking forward to speaking myself… and if you’ve ever opened up a fun-looking game and found yourself bored, confused or outright put off by the instructions, you’ll understand my subject – the importance of writing your instructions clearly. That’s why I’ll be explaining five things that turn instructions into obstructions – and exactly how you can avoid them!"
This year’s Inventors Workshop will be at held at Whittlebury Hall in Northampton on Tuesday, September 20th, 2016. The event is set to bring together leading inventors, distributors, retailers, investors and design students, all of whom are looking to discover new ideas, make new connections and stay at the forefront of innovation in toys.
