Codenames championed Spiel des Jahres 2016 winner

Tabletop party game, Codenames has been crowned the winner of the 2016 Spiel des Jahres awards.

The title, created by designer Vlaada Chvatil beat the likes of 2016 awards-favourite Imhotep, to be named Germany’s game of the year in a competition designed to highlight outstanding design in board gaming.

Codenames now joins a hall of fame of previous winners, including 2015’s Colt Express, 2010’s Dixit and 2004’s Ticket to Ride.

Meanwhile, Isle of Skye: From Chieftain to King has been named the winner of the 2016 Kennerspiel des Jahres, an award aimed at game enthusiasts looking for a more technical title.

Both Codenames and Isle of Skye: From Chieftain to King are distributed within the UK by Esdevium Games.
