Goldieblox debuts new coding app for kids

Goldieblox has unveiled its new app designed to encourage kids aged four and up to get coding.

Known as GoldieBlox: Adventures in Coding – The Rocket Cupcake Co, the app takes young inventors on a mission to help Goldie.

By using real coding concepts, players must pave the way for Goldie to deliver cupcakes to everyone in Bloxtown.

“At GoldieBlox, our mission is to break down gender stereotypes by providing more options for kids to explore,” said Debbie Sterling, founder and CEO of GoldieBlox.

“With the coding app, we’re removing the intimidation factor and making STEM-related subjects more accessible for boys and girls alike. By incorporating storytelling, we’re giving kids the missing link they need to develop an interest in coding. Our hope is that by creating new platforms for discovery, we’ll be able to spread our message even further and empower kids everywhere to find their passion.”

Jenna Chalmers, director of game design at GoldieBlox, added: “By 2024, 1.1 million computing-related job openings are expected to be in demand. If we continue at the current rate, only 41 per cent of these jobs could be filled, leaving a huge deficit in the labor market.

"What’s more is that just last year, only 25 per cent of the computing workforce were women. That’s why it’s important for us to encourage more children, girls in particular, to develop an early interest in computer science.”

Available on iPad and iPhone, the app is priced at $2.99 and boasts early coding concepts including Sequential Execution, Debugging, Clean Code, Variables and more.
