Mattel honours Gabby Douglas with Shero Barbie doll

Olympic gold medallist, Gabby Douglas, has been given her very own Barbie doll.

In honour of the inspirational Olympic champion, Mattel has designed a ‘Barbie Shero doll’ for Douglas, to shine the spotlight on extraordinary, pioneering women.

"I love a challenge. I love to push limits and I love that my very own Barbie celebrates me for being a role model to girls," said Douglas.

"Being honoured as a Barbie Shero further motivates me to inspire girls by being the best I can be."

The fashion designs for the doll have been inspired by Douglas’ own signature GK leotard, plus the doll also comes with a Nike warm-up suit.

Lisa McKnight, general manager and SVP at Barbie, added: “Playing with Barbie allows girls to imagine everything they can become.

“While imagining you can be anything is the first step, seeing that you can is what makes all the difference. Role models like Gabby Douglas show girls that with determination and perseverance their potential is limitless."

Douglas joins a line-up of respected women who have all been depicted in Barbie form, including Misty Copeland, Ava DuVernay, Emmy Rossum, Eva Chen, Trisha Yearwood and Zendaya.
