Queens of Africa dolls head to the US

After launching the Queens of Africa doll line in 2007, founder Taofick Okoya has revealed that the range will be coming to America this summer.

Each of the dolls have been designed to depict different African ethnicities, as well as a variety of hairstyles, and was developed when Okoya couldn’t find a black doll on the market for his niece.

The dolls’ body parts are created in China and are then put together in Nigeria, and now fans of the line will be able to snap up the various characters in America.

Okoya said: “The US market is structured in a more efficient manner, which allows us to reach more people,” reports Forbes.

“In Nigeria, apart from the more high-brow stores such as Shoprite and The Game Store, it’s difficult to be present across multiple stores across several states. The US has that distribution network however, and that network is power.”
