Toys R Us steps up ecommerce offering to battle the likes of Amazon

Toys R Us is stepping up its efforts to compete with Amazon and other ecommerce retailers with the appointment of a new CIO.

Phil Newmoyer will be joining the company with the purpose to help boost the retailer’s ecommerce and develop its customer-facing tech to help make its stores easier to shop in.

A Toys R Us spokesperson, said Newmoyer will: “Lead the IT portion of our ecommerce platform transition work in addition to other strategic initiatives, including global system standardisation and the development of customer-facing technologies to make our stores easier to shop,” reports CIO.com.

The retailer currently offers various ecommerce services including in-store pickup of online orders and shipping orders from stores, however the company is looking to increase its offering as competition from Amazon and the like continues to increase.

Newmoyer previously held the position of CIO at Serta Simmons Bedding, and also has experience working with Oracle ATG software, which the retailer is hoping to use across its websites.
