Toys R Us, LEGO and Mattel have all been named among the top retail and entertainment companies in the second annual Super Entrepreneur list.

The Walt Disney Company, Merlin Entertainments Group Penguin Books and Hornby also featured alongside the likes of Amazon, John Lewis and Sainsbury’s as firms merited with making ‘substantial contributions’ to the British economy.

Now in its second year and welcoming a top leisure, toys and entertainment companies category for the first time, the listing was selected by a panel of 24 judges made up of industry and marketing experts.

Of the 200 companies to make the list, toys and toy retailers had a strong presence with LEGO placing fifth, overtaking Amazon who landed in sixth place this year, Mattel in 74th and Hornby in 99th position.

Toy retail giant Toys R Us placed 180th in the listing.

The Super Entrepreneur listing was devised in 2015 to champion the established companies still pushing the boundaries in innovation.

Tim Bourne, chairman of the MAA said: “At a time when investors are focusing on the next hugely successful tech start-up, we commissioned The Centre for Brand Analysis to focus on how 200 top companies were maintaining their innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.
