AR/VR card battling game under development from Star Wars: A New Hope holochess creator

A VR/AR monster battling game akin to the one seen aboard the Millenium Falcon in Star Wars: A New Hope is making its way to the real world.

The new tech infused card game called HoloGrid: Monster Battle will see a cast of monsters slog it out to be crowned the victor on both virtual and augmented reality platforms.

The game has been developed by none other than Phil Tippett, the very man behind the design and creation holochess monster game seen in the 1977 sci-fi epic, Star Wars.

Tippett is working with games developer HappyGiant to create the new title and will use a process called photogrammetry to make the holochess-like monsters come to life from cards played on a game board.

HoloGrid: Monster Battle has been described as similar to the collectable card game Blizzard’s Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering.

Details on when the game will be released are still vague, but HappyGiant’s president of development has said that his firm is ‘very excited and interested in new platforms like Magic Leap, HoloLens, CastAR, Meta and more.’

The Verge reports that the game will also be available for mobile and PC.
