Kids can invent their own toys with latest Kickstarter project, Tio

A new collection of buildable tech toys has taken to Kickstarter with the aim of allowing kids to create app-controlled toys and inventions with everyday objects.

Called Tio, the kit features motorised building blocks with in-built LEDs, magnetic mounts, wheels and accessories to inspire kids to build, animate and programme their own creations.

Developed by a trio of designers and engineers, Tio is setting out to engage kids with STEM activities through play and features a personalised storybook that through a cast of characters will guide youngsters through their first inventions.

Kids will then be able to interact with their creations via the free iOS and Android Tio app, allowing kids to programme and control many functions such as motor speed and direction as well as LED colours and patterns.

“As a Tio inventor, you also get access to Tio’s safe online community to find inspiration, join challenges, unlock badges, download templates, stories and much, much more,” said the Tio team via its Kickstarter page.

The team has so far raised over £16,000 of its £50k goal, with 32 days remaining on the crowdfunding platform.
