US TOY FAIR: Toys-to-life and robotics big business for 2016, says TIA

Robotics, drones, STEM learning and family inclusive games will be the top toy trends of 2016, according to the US Toy Industry Association.

The trade group revealed this year’s predicted trends in toys during a seminar held for media and buyers at the 113th North American International Toy Fair.

Toys-to-life is expected to be big business in the market this year as well as drones and robotics, while educational toys reinforcing STEM learning have been labeled as top contenders in the toy market.

The TIA has also predicted that the collectables market will see a boom for the year ahead.

“This year the toy box will be filled with products from both ends of the spectrum,” said Adrienne Appell, TIA trend expert.

“From high-tech toys to classic and outdorr based products, there’s something for each child’s interests. The best toys hitting the market are ones that challenge kids and foster their development, all while maintaining an element of fun.

“While the focus in on kids, what’s noteworthy is that many elements of these toys and games encourage parents to join the activities.”
