“We’re looking at ethnic diversity for Ken dolls,” says Mattel’s VP of Barbie design

Following Mattel’s move to introduce three new body types for Barbie, the firm’s VP of design for the brand has revealed that plans are in place to shake up refresh Ken too.

Kimberly Culmone, VP of Barbie design, has said that the firm is looking at new ethnicities for Ken, as well as possibly following Barbie into new body shapes.

"We’re looking at ethnic diversity for Ken dolls, and potentially (his) body," Culmone told USA Today.

"This is a time at Mattel where we’re very open to rapid change."
