#ToyLikeMe has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to launch a website resource celebrating toys which represent disability.
The site will celebrate disability in toys, advise parents and carers looking for representative toys and continue consulting and calling on the global toy industry to include disabled children in the cultural mainstream.
The #ToyLikeMe movement, co-founded by British journalist and creative disability consultant Rebecca Atkinson in April 2015, calls on the global toy industry to better represent 150 million disabled children worldwide. After receiving global press, #ToyLikeMe now has over 32k followers in over 45 countries.
“#ToyLikeMe has received no funding to date,” said Atkinson.
“We’ve called in hundreds of favours since establishing, but if we are going to carry on we need to pull our heads out of the toy box and get some real funding to build on what we have already created and change the toy box for disabled children today, and those yet to be born.”
The campaign is looking to raise £16,000 by February 18th.
