Ghostbusters director assures fans that reboot will come with plenty of female action figures

The absence of a number of female movie lead characters from the toy shelves has been well documented in recent months.

The latest to come under fire from the glare of the internet’s legions of female action figure campaigners arrived via the social media movement #WheresRey, a call for Hasbro to introduce the female lead, Rey, to a new Star Wars version of Monopoly.

The campaign followed the frustration expressed by director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn, at the lack of Gamora toys among the shelves and a movement for more Marvel’s Black Widow figures following the release The Avengers.

However, one movie desperate not to get on the wrong side of campaigners is the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, featuring an all female lead cast and the action figures to back it up.

Director Paul Feig revealed the six-inch action figure assortment from Mattel in a Tweet on Friday, January 8th.

The image currently circulating the Social Media sphere is a collection of protoypes from the global toymaker, featuring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in their respective Ghostbuster roles.

The tweet from the director (and man behind movies such as Bridesmaids and the Peanuts Movie) arrives as his assurance that the upcoming Ghostbusters movie will supply the demand for more female action figures.

Feig also took to Twitter to declare that Funko, Diamond Select and LEGO are each on board to develop new lines for the movie slated for release on July 15th, 2016.
