US: Barbie beats Frozen in National Retail Federation’s top Christmas toys list

Barbie has made it to the top of the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) Top Toys list for the 2015 Christmas season.

According to a survey, which is carried out by Proper Insights and Analytics, 21.2 per cent of holiday shoppers revealed they are planning on buying a Barbie for their little girl this year.

Last year, Barbie lost out to Disney’s Frozen, but this year 13 per cent of respondents revealed that they will be purchasing toys related to the film.

In addition, the survey found that Star Wars is remaining popular with kids, as 11.7 per cent of adults ranked Star Wars toys as something they would buy for girls and boys.

“Retailers are already offering an array of exclusive and unique toy options for parents and adults to choose from this holiday season, including high-end electronic and educational toys, board games and even the classics like LEGO,” said Matthew Shay, president and CEO of NRF.

“We know retailers are ready with an array of toy options when it comes to finding what they want over Thanksgiving weekend and all season long.”

LEGO secured the title as the most-requested item by boys this year, with 12.2 per cent of adults planning on buying LEGO.

Other products including My Little Pony, American Girl, Hot Wheels and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles also made the cut this year.
