Scrabble sales ‘soar’ on as retailer champions traditional board games

Online marketplace has seen ‘Scrabble sales soar’ over the last three months with 803 products related to the classic game sold every day.

The result emerges following a survey conducted by the online giant into the popularity of classic board games when compared to sales of their high-tech and counterparts.

According to the findings, eBay has discovered that its shoppers appear to be “falling back in love with the humble board game”, particularly Scrabble that now sells one game a minute via the online platform.

Chess comes in at second in the nation’s traditional game ranking, selling more than 200 products per day while Monopoly achieves sales of seven units every hour.

Risk and Trivial pursuit place fourth and fifth in eBay’s top five selling traditional board games of the last three months respectively.
