Earlier this week, like a toy inventor Nick Fury, I gathered five great figures from the toy and game inventor scene to take part in a roundtable discussion.

Covered in the close to two hour chat was how to cope with copycats, how the role of the inventor has changed in the last decade, the impact of Kickstarter and whether 2015 is a good time to be a toy or game inventor.

You’ll be able to read the entire fascinating discussion (even if I do say so myself) in September, when both online and in the mag we’ll be kicking off a month of inventor activity culminating in our Inventors Workshop.

And what an event it’s shaping up to be.

In other news, the latest issue of ToyNews is now out (you can read it online here). In it, I spoke to Hasbro’s executive VP/chief content officer Stephen Davis (who also runs Hasbro Studios) about the process of bringing toy properties to the big screen.

The latest developments regarding Hasbro and the big screen come in the form of Monopoly. While a Monopoly movie has been known about for a few years, the firm has parted ways with Ridley Scott and instead partnered with Lionsgate and the writer of The Truman Show to get the ball rolling on the project.

Now while the film is set to be a family friendly comedy, I’d be lying if said I wouldn’t be interested in a take on the game seen in the mock poster below (still, here’s hoping its Hungry Hungry Hippos movie – which is actually happening – goes down the horror film route):
