ToyNews is to get a new-look editorial team from next month, with Samantha Loveday stepping down from the role of editor.
Billy Langsworthy, currently deputy editor, will take over the editorship of both ToyNews and its sister online only title, Licensing.biz.
Langsworthy joined ToyNews in July 2013 from NewBay stablemate MCV and has been instrumental in growing the magazine’s readership, in particular with the toy inventor community.
Langsworthy will be supported by Robert Hutchins, who has been promoted from staff writer to deputy editor. Hutchins has worked across ToyNews and Licensing.biz since March 2013, proving himself to be a popular and conscientious team member, with a flair for digging out exclusive news.
The new team is completed by Rhys Troake, who joins as staff writer from sister title, MI Pro.
Loveday has worked on ToyNews since 2005 in various roles, becoming editor in January 2011. Since its launch in September 2007, she has also held the role of editor on Licensing.biz, helping to grow the website from industry newcomer to market leader, averaging over 30,000 unique visitors a month. She originally joined the parent company in December 2000, as deputy editor of video games weekly MCV (before moving up to editor), and has also held positions on various other titles in the portfolio.
Loveday’s last day will be Friday, July 17th.
She commented: "I have enjoyed every single day of my time at ToyNews and Licensing.biz, and, indeed, NewBay – or MCV Media as it was when I joined back in 2000. Since then, the team has successfully grown ToyNews in print and online, and even moved it into the events space, as well as establishing Licensing.biz as the go-to website for news, analysis and opinion on the fast moving licensing industry from a standing start.
"I’m incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved in such a competitive market and will be sad to leave the team behind. However, I know both titles will continue to thrive under their guidance."
Langsworthy added: "Sam has been amazing to me since joining ToyNews and I speak for the whole team when I say she’ll be missed massively. The team is losing a great editor, and an even better singer. I’ve already pinched three of her favourite pens in a desperate bid to secure future contact.
"I’m excited to step up as editor, and am looking forward to the relaxation of tea round duties I hope it brings. They are big shoes to fill (metaphorically speaking) but I can’t wait to get the wheels turning on what promises to be an exciting year for ToyNews across the magazine, online and in the numerous events we’re working on. We have a great team and I look forward to continuing the great work Sam has been instrumental in installing across both ToyNews and Licensing.biz."
Mark Burton, MD of NewBay Media and publisher of ToyNews and Licensing.biz, continued: "We are sorry to see Sam go after being an incredibly important part of not just ToyNews and Licensing.biz, but the company as a whole for almost 15 years. We would like to thank her for all her hard work, and wish her luck with all future endeavours."
