Robotic toy company Sphero has hinted that it is currently working on a consumer version of BB-8, the droid from the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Earlier this month, the company confirmed that its technology was behind Disney’s sci-fi droid BB-8, a bot that shot to fame when the studio released its first trailer for the new film earlier in the year.
Sphero has now revealed that Star Wars fans should ‘prepare themselves’ as the company has a consumer version of the droid in the works.
So far, the company has only hinted at what is to come, and said it is teaming with Disney to “deliver an incredible and authentic BB-8 experience.”
Engadget reports that pricing and availability is still being kept under wraps, but Sphero has launched a landing page for people who want to stay updated on the project.
“What an incredible honour it is to work with the team at Disney on one of the most interesting new characters in the Star Wars franchise,” said Paul Berberian, CEO at Sphero.
“Opportunities this significant are rare. If anyone can execute and deliver on an exceptional BB-8 experience, it’s our Sphero team.”
