Warner Bros taps director for The LEGO Movie Sequel

Warner Bros has tapped TV director Rob Schrab to helm the now officially titled LEGO Movie follow-up, The LEGO Movie Sequel.

The film’s release remains undated, but speculation suggests The LEGO Movie Sequel will hit screens in 2018.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller – the writing and directing duo behind the original The LEGO Movie – are currently writing the sequel.

Meanwhile, the movie will mark Schrab’s first move to big screen directing, having made a name for himself in TV, most notably as the director of hit TV shows Community, The Mindy Project and Parks and Recreation.

“We are so excited to collaborate with Rob,” said Lord and Miller.

“He is a comedy genius, a visual savant and we have been stalking him for years. No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humour, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful and passionately nerdy voice to this project.

“People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, ‘Of course.’”

The LEGO Movie Sequel will be the fourth film in the LEGO film franchise for Warner Bros., with Ninjago set for September 23rd, 2016 and the LEGO Batman Movie scheduled for May 2017.
