Penguin plush sales up 300 per cent on eBay

Sales of penguin toys on eBay have surged by 300 per cent in the weeks since John Lewis aired its Christmas advert.

Monty and Mabel, the male and female penguin toys from the retailer featured in the Christmas campaign, sold out online within 24 hours.

Shoppers since took to eBay to source the must have plush penguins, with reports of sales hitting as much as £499 for a cuddly toy.

Now, the Independent reports that 2,638 penguin toys have been sold on eBay between November 6th and November 17th, equating to an average of 240 toys sold a day.

Meanwhile, plush specialist Intelex is also expecting sales of its own line of cuddly penguins to receive a boost off the back of the advert, while shoppers continue to search for the plush creatures, with reports of 6000 searches for Monty the Penguin on eBay in the last week alone.
