Leicester’s award –winning toyshop, Dominoes has confirmed it will be moving in to the city’s Fenwick department store.
The new store will occupy 1000 square feet on the first floor of the landmark Market Street building and will open on February 14th.
The news follows local speculation as to where the store will reopen after going into administration last year.
“It’s a good fit for Fenwick because it gives them a toy department, which they haven’t got,” said Dominoes owner, Steve Samson. “A lot of people who go into the store have either children or grandchildren, so it’s a good fit for us too.”
The new move will reduce Sansom’s main expense worries, the largest problem for the original store, he reveals.
The store – then based on the High Street – was forced in to administration in September last year after suffering major financial losses, blamed on competition from supermarkets and online operators, reports the Leicester Mercury.
The new store will now employ five to six people and jobs with jobs being offered to some of the 28 made redundant when the first shop closed.
David Illingworth, Fenwick director, said: “We are very, very excited about Dominoes coming to Fenwick.
“We have agreed to give them space on the first floor and we will see how it goes from there. We may look to expand it in the future.”
