Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast have revealed plans to bring the popular card game Magic: The Gathering to the board game market.
The move was announced at this year’s Essen game conference in Germany, where fans were treated to the first photos of the upcoming game.
Described as a tactical miniatures game, the new title is expected to hit shelves in autumn next year, however, its name is yet to be revealed.
Despite the secrecy over the name, game details have been revealed and the new title will challenge players to customise their own battlefields by designing the map on which the game is played, according to Geek Wire.
The game will make reference to some of the card game’s popular characters and story lines, but Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast insist that players will not need prior knowledge of the card game.
The game has been developed by Renton-based Wizards of the Coast, the team behind the original card game with guidance from its parent company Hasbro.
