“This year’s list of winning toys features a truly diverse mix of products which I think perfectly reflects the life, character, and occasionally eclectic nature of the independent toy retailers that bring so much to this industry," said Toy Shop UK's Michael Hawkins.

Reaction to Independent Toy Awards 2014 revealed

The results of Toy Shop UK’s sixth annual Independent Toy Awards are in.

Gold, silver and bronze medal logos have been awarded in each of the 25 categories, with a number of other suppliers receiving a ‘commendation’ logo for products that narrowly missed out on a top three place.

ToyShop UK asked over 1,000 retailers that list their businesses on the directory what they think are the best toys in each category, and the results are below.

“This year’s list of winning toys features a truly diverse mix of products which I think perfectly reflects the life, character, and occasionally eclectic nature of the independent toy retailers that bring so much to this industry,” said Toy Shop UK founder Michael Hawkins.

Rena Nathanson, Top Banana at Bananagrams:
“It’s a true honour to have our games recognised yet again by the Independent Toy Awards. This is the third year running that independent retailers have voted for games in the Bananagrams range, and it’s great to see our newest titles picking up these important accolades. Independent retailers remain incredibly important to the success of our games.”

Graeme Fraser-Bell, inventor of Accentuate:
“We are beyond thrilled. The game’s only been on shelves for a couple of months and already independent retailers are picking it as one of their favourite products. We know it’s a great game, but to have this reinforced by the very people who sell such games is a very valuable endorsement and we are honoured to receive such a prestigious award.”

Farel Williams, marketing and social media assistant at DKL:
“We are over the moon about our Independent Toy Awards. As a team, we are always striving to showcase the quality of our toy brands, so for two of them to be given such recognition is absolutely fantastic.”

Nikki Samuels, MD at Sambro:
"It’s always nice to win awards and the Toyshop UK awards are a brilliant scheme that are perfectly timed for our crucial selling period. This recognition along with our planned TV advertising and PR should create a real buzz around the game in the run up to Christmas."

Clive Richardson, marketing director at VTech UK:
“Little Love Baby Talk is VTech’s first step into the doll market, which makes the recognition from the Independent Toy Awards extra special as it reflects our own belief that this is going to be a winning toy this Christmas with children and parents alike.”

Dirk Kiefer, MD at Maps Toys:
"We knew as soon as we saw Cool Circuits that it would be a hit with UK consumers. It’s a game that gets you hooked from the outset and all the family can play – it can get quite competitive. We are delighted to have been awarded the Gold award from Toyshop UK. It’s a renowned annual awards scheme that is recognised by both retailers and consumers. We hope it’s the first award of many for this game."

Katherine Pierce, senior marketing manager at Jumbo Games:
“We’re delighted that the Peppa Pig Giant Muddy Puddle Puzzle and the Goula Calendar clock have been recognised in this year’s Independent Toy Awards. Having the support of the retailers makes these awards valuable and represents the appeal of both products."

Catherine Lawrence, Carte Blanche brand manager:
“By combining great quality plush, impactful Point of Sale solutions and a link to the digital world that motivates today’s kids, combined with an evergreen brand like Moshi Monsters, we’ve created a winning formula. It’s wonderful to receive this latest award and a fantastic indictment to be recognised by independent retailers who are at the forefront of toy retail.”
