Created by LEGO Ideas member Lyonsblood, the 30th anniversary LEGO Goonies project has already hit 7,053 supporters with 295 days still remaining of it year long life-span.
LEGO fan and 80s film devotee, Lyonsblood now believes that the project can echo the success of recent anniversary sets to have made the big time through the fan ideas site.
“In 2015, the Goonies will be 30 years old, so what better time to start a campaign to reignite LEGO’s interest in this franchise,” he said.
“With the success of the Back to the Future set and Ghostbusters, there’s definitely enough interest in retro movies from the 80s to warrant this one.”
One Eyed Willie’s pirate ship is just one Goonies themed set proposed by the Ideas member, who is also the name behind sets such as The Goonies skeleton organ scene and the robbery at the beginning of the film.
“In regards to LEGO’s brand standards, The Goonies very much fits into the ethics that LEGO believe in. It’s fun, exciting and offers many possibilities for expansion.
“It is also very reminiscent of other existing LEGO licensed products such as Indiana Jones and Harry Potter. It also has the added appeal of being a nostalgic set piece that the older collectors of LEGO will cherish,” concluded Lyonsblood.
