Following England’s failure to make it through to the next round of the tournament, memorabilia including teddies and wristbands is already filling bargain basement bins across the country.
Supermarket giant, Sainsbury’s had already discounted the lines before England’s last game of the tournament against Costa Rica last night.
With prices already being slashed by up to 70 per cent, grocers are now expected to lose out on food and drink sales as World Cup interest begins to wane.
And following the team’s performance, sports retailer are also predicted to take a bit, reports Retail Week.
Earleir this month, Tom Knight, boss of Matalan’s Sporting Pro, said: “It’s important that England don’t lose the first game, which is seen as the most difficult.
“It’s the difference between sales and selling products at markdown.”
