Construction brick firm has given the iconic photograph of the 1966 England team a tweak.

LEGO hopes to inspire England team with World Cup mural

So the World Cup is officially under way today. How do we know that? Well, LEGO has created a World Cup mural to celebrate, of course.

Designed to rouse the three lions in us all, and ‘inspire the England team to victory’ the construction brick firm has recreated the iconic photograph of the 1966 England team. Sort of.

The firm has replaced the heroic champions with their contemporary counterparts, depicting a grinning Stevie-G holding the coveted cup aloft.

The LEGO mosaic has been created with 49,200 LEGO bricks and measures two metres by 1.5 metres in size.

The mural was constructed by the UK’s only LEGO certified professional, Duncan Titmarsh from Surrey.

Will his creation be enough to spur the team to glory this year, or will the boys have to keep themselves occupied with their LEGO sets on a long plane journey home?

Time will tell.

Take a look at the mural below:

Come on England.
