When I Was A Kid heads to IndieGoGo for support with new Cambridge store

Wellingborough-based toy shop When I Was a Kid has turned to crowdfunding platform IndieGoGo to help support the launch of a second store in Cambridge.

Paul Warner, owner of When I Was a Kid, is looking to raise £37,500 to help transform the ‘blank canvas’ on Cambridge’s Trinity Street into a Mr Magorium’s Emporium-esque traditional toy shop.

"Watching kids playing alongside each other on games consoles breaks my heart," said Warner.

"There’s no interaction, limited conversation, no activity and no chance for children to imagine; it is soul-destroying.

"When I Was a Kid is a magical experience, not just a toy shop. Our aim is to make you smile, Random Acts of Kindness, Make it Days, toys out of their boxes waiting to be played with but most of all, proper toys that let little imaginations grow.

"When I Was a Kid is a traditional toy shop providing a vast range of traditional & wooden toys that encourage children to play, really play, properly. Think back to your fondest and most fun childhood memories, it’s that that When I Was a Kid is re-creating. Imagine a magical toy shop in Cambridge’s fabulous Trinity Street, now watch this space."

Warner is using crowdfunding to give people the chance to be a part of the launch of the new store, with pledge rewards available ranging from vouchers, hoodies and appearing on the store’s wall of fame.

"We have worked hard to show people what we are about and to involve people in the magic," added Warner.

"The amazing Cambridge Filmworks brought our story to life, we want the whole world to see it and give everyone a chance to be part of the dream."
