K’Nex CEO lends support to the Fiver Challenge

The CEO and president of K’Nex Brands – Michael Araten – is lending his support to the Fiver Challenge, an initiative which aims to encourage enterprise in UK primary schools.

Araten (pictured) has recorded a video encouraging primary school pupils to discover their early entrepreneurial spirit as part of the project, which is organised by Young Enterprise and back by Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Money.

The Fiver campaign calls on children aged up to 11 to start businesses with just £5 to see how their creativity could make the initial investment grow. Held with the support of the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, some 20,000 children will be participating in the initiative.

The campaign will run through June and will also see familiar children’s TV stars getting creative with £5.

"The K’Nex story is one of entrepreneurship," said Araten. "From our beginnings in 1992, K’Nex is now available in over 40 countries worldwide and we celebrate 20 years in the UK this year.

"I am delighted to be encouraging young people to explore their own creativity and I am excited to discover what incredible things these young creative minds might achieve."

Michael Mercieca, chief executive of Young Enterprise, continued: "Working in partnership with businesses such as K’Nex, Young Enterprise wishes to enable young people from every community and background to experience, understand and engage with the challenging, fun and exciting world of enterprise."
