Galt Toys donates Marilyn Monroe portrait profits to The Toy Trust

Galt Toys has donated £2,050 to the Toy Trust, the toy industry’s charity. The money raised, through the sale of a Marilyn Monroe portrait made purely from Galt’s arts and crafts products, will go to help disadvantaged and disabled children in the UK and abroad.

The Marilyn Monroe portrait was unveiled at this year’s Toy Fair by celebrity art expert and star of BBC’S Bargain Hunt, Timothy Wonnacott, who officially started the seven day online auction.

John McDonnell, MD of Galt Toys, met with Foye Pascoe, chairman of the Toy Trust, on Monday, March 24th to hand over the giant cheque.

Pascoe remarked: “On behalf of the Toy Trust I would like to thank and congratulate Galt Toys on this fantastic fundraising initiative. The money raised through their auction will go on to help disadvantaged and disabled children through the various charities we support throughout the year – it’s fantastic to receive such a contribution."

The 5ft by 5ft Marilyn Monroe mosaic masterpiece was created by Ed Chapman, one of the UK’s leading contemporary artists. The portrait received over 30 bids before finally being won by Emma Messenger from Messenger Enterprise Ltd, owner of several Toymaster stores.

While originally commissioned to help inspire children to be creative, the sale of the painting will now be used to directly help disadvantaged children.

McDonnell commented: “We are delighted to be able to support the exceptional work of the Toy Trust charity. We would like to thank Emma and Jason Messenger from Messenger Enterprise Ltd for their generous bid on the painting, as well as Foye for meeting with us to accept the cheque on behalf of the Toy Trust.”

The money donated by Galt will go towards the work that the Toy Trust plans to undertake in 2014 with two charities; one in the UK and one international charity.

The donation will be split between Whizz Kidz, a leading UK children’s mobility charity that provides essential mobility equipment for disabled children, and Disability Africa, a charity that works to increase awareness and acceptance of disabled children in Gambia.
