The Entertainer has experienced its fifth year of top line and like for like growth for 2013/14, recording a pre-tax profit of £5.96 million – up 16 per cent from 2012/13.
The retailer credits strong like for like sales growth across its network of 89 stores, combined with careful cost control and a drive for efficiency, for achieving another year of record profit.
The Entertainer’s margin also increased against a backdrop of intense discounting during the important peak trading season. Its in-store performance was matched by strong online sales. Click and Collect orders were up 93 per cent in the five weeks leading to Christmas 2013.
14 new stores were opened across the UK during the period, as well as the relocation or refitting of four existing outlets. It also made its first foray into international markets through its partnership with franchisee Al Owais Enterprises in the GCC region.
"2013 has been a momentus year for The Entertainer; these strong financial results mean we have achieved five years of continuous growth, which is something I am very proud of considering the retail landscape over the last few years," said Gary Grant, founder and MD. "2014 will be another important year for us with the planned opening of 12 stores throughout the UK and further international expansion."
The Entertainer was also recently honoured at the Oracle Retail Week awards, picking up the Zolfo Cooper Growth Retailer of the Year 2014 accolade.
