LEGO calendar and Dumb Ways to Die app in running for Design Awards 2014

London’s Design Museum has revealed the Design Awards 2014 shortlist, featuring children’s safety app Dumb Ways to Die and a LEGO calendar.

The list has been revealed to showcase innovation and ingenuity from around the world allowing museum visitors and social media users to vote for heir favourite designs, reports the Independent.

Designed by McCann Melbourne, the children’s app Dumb Ways to Die encourages youngsters to think about safety by inventing various grisly methods by which to kill off its lead character.

Meanwhile, also contesting for the plaudit is the LEGO calendar, designed by Adrian Westaway, Clara Gaggero, Duncan Fitzsimons and Simon Emberton.

The LEGO calendar is a wall mounted time planner invented for a studio, with colour coded bricks representing time spent on projects.

The calendar is made entirely of LEGO and when a photo is taken of it on a smartphone, all of the events and timings are synchronised to an online calendar.

Other designs in the competition include a floating classroom, a recoiling mudguard and talking lampposts.
