H. Grossman Ltd has joined forces with Amazon and eBay to stamp out counterfeit Rainbow Looms.
The counterfeits have been marketed on online platforms using a picture of the legitimate Rainbow Loom to dupe online shoppers.
Grossman reports that the online sellers, purporting to sell the legitimate loom then sends the consumer a ‘poor quality fake.’
The craft toy that uses rubber bands to create jewellery has seen success in the US, with sales approaching two million units.
Times Magazine has recently listed the loom as part of it’s ‘Year in Things’ countdown.
Amazon in the US has moved quickly to close down the accounts of the counterfeit sellers and the UK is quickly following suit.
Managing director, Martin Grossman, said: "We are working closely with the Trading standards Office and have a specially dedicated team buying sample stock and posing as consumers to flush out the fakers.
"Once identified their trading accounts will be closed and prosecutions will follow. We are very serious about protecting this product."
