Disability Africa and Whizz Kids will be backed by the funds

Toy Trust pledges £180,000 to two children’s charities in 2014

The Toy Trust has made a commitment of £180,000 towards two main children’s charities in 2014.

Events and initiatives taking place in the first half of 2014 will support Disability Africa, based in Gunjur, Gambia, while the summer and the second half of 2014’s events will support UK mobility charity Whizz Kidz.

“The support for the Toy Trust in 2013 has been amazing and has raised over £250,000," said Foye Pascoe, Toy Trust Chair.

"This allows us to pledge to help two main charities in 2014, as well as continuing the Toy Trust’s work of helping smaller charities with small grants.

"We will need the industry to get behind the events again in order to be able to achieve the level of support pledged but we believe the two main charities will fundamentally change the lives of the children they help”.

£90,000 of the money raised in the first half of the year, including the media auction at the awards night, will go toward supporting Disability Africa; a charity that has identified a complete non acceptance of disabled children in some communities in Africa.

The money raised next year will build a centre in Gunjur, Gambia to support disabled children and educate their parents and the wider community to allow the children to lead an open and acceptable life.

The Toy Trust’s £90,000 donation to Whizz Kidz will provide essential mobility equipment to enable disabled children to have fun and active childhoods and the freedom, independence, confidence and skills to reach their true potential and ensure no child is left behind.

The main second half activity will be the Toy Trust 2014 Big Challenge on Saturday June 7th 2014.

250 participants will have the opportunity to cycle 130km around the Isle of Wight, run or walk 20k or do two of the events.

There are the last remaining places available to take part in the event and these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you wish to get involved in any of the fundraising activities contact Matt Jones matt@btha.co.uk or visit the Toy Trust website.
