Both John Lewis and Waitrose experience sales lift; Waitrose online platform rockets ahead with 40 per cent sales increase.

John Lewis Partnership sees sales rise in first half of the year

John Lewis Partnership is celebrating positive interim results for the half year ending July 27th, that has seen rising profits for both John Lewis and Waitrose.

The Partnership saw sales hit £4.73bn, increasing £323.2m on last year, with a revenue of £4.44bn – a 7.5 per cent increase.

Leading the charge for the firm, Waitrose experienced a soar in its gross online sales, increasing by 40.6 per cent.

Sir Charlie Mayfield, chairman of John Lewis Partnership, said: "The Partnership has had a strong first half with sales up 7.3 per cent and profit before exceptionals up by 3.9 per cent, slightly ahead of our expectations due to a good trading performance in both businesses."

"I am particularly pleased that both Waitrose and John Lewis again increased their market shares significantly during the first half.

"Year-on-year we grew our customer numbers by six per cent, helped especially by initiatives such as MyWaitrose and our omni-channel offer in John Lewis."
