Monster Reaction to Monsters University toys

An official line of toys based on new Disney movie Monsters University is selling into retail strongly ahead of launch.

The range – from master toy licensee Spin Master – includes the Sulley Monster Mask role-play product (pictured), feature plush such as the My Scare Pal Sulley, collectables and action figures, games, Spin Master’s Roll-A-Scare segment and Boo from the movie Monsters, Inc.

“We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from all retailers on our range,” Spin Master’s UK marketing director Phil Hooper told ToyNews. “Early sell-through indications are positive and will build in the coming weeks up to movie launch on July 12th.”

The Monsters University toys have already featured in a three-week competition across Disney channels, and will be boosted by a TV campaign.

“Our TV campaign will kick off just after Monsters University releases at cinema, and we have three fun commercials which feature Roll-A-Scare, Sulley Monster Mask and My Scare Pal Sulley,” Hooper added.

“Both Disney and Spin Master have some great PR activity planned throughout the rest of the year and retailers have embraced the opportunity to run activity in stores during the summer.”

ToyNews reported on the initial licensing agreement between Spin Master and Disney last November. Spin Master described the deal as “probably the biggest” in its entire history.

Monsters University is the prequel to popular 2001 Disney Pixar movie Monsters, Inc.
