11-year-old Robert Shaw saw off more than 100,000 other entrants

Britain’s Top Trumps Champion crowned

11-year-old Robert Shaw from Skelmersdale has been crowned Britain’s Top Trumps champion.

Over 100,000 schoolchildren entered the fourth annual National Schools Top Trumps Tournament and Shaw, along with 11 others, made it to the London-based final on Saturday.

Alongside a Top Trumps Tournament Trophy, Shaw took home other goodies including an iPad Mini.

The theme for this year’s tournament was ‘digital heroes’ and a special pack created by Winning Moves UK was sent to schools to kick-start the competition.

The deck starred digital pioneers like Bill Gates and was designed to give messages about staying safe online to parents and children and teach about the potential of the digital world.

One of the winning cards couldn’t really have been further from the digital heroes theme as Shaw’s victory came thanks to a Coronation Street Top Trumps card.

“Our hearty congratulations to Robert,” said head of marketing at Winning Moves UK, Fiona Hortopp.

“He was a very worthy winner and to have come out first from more than 100,000 schoolchildren is a truly wonderful achievement.”
