Thames and Kosmos AR car on CBBC Friday Download

UPDATE (May 22nd, 4:50pm): Article has been amended to reflect the product’s price change and improved features.

Thames and Kosmos’ new ‘Smart Car Robotics’ Augmented Reality Concept Car will appear on CBBC’s Friday Download kids’ TV show.

It will be featured on the award winning show this Friday, May 24th at 5pm.

This brand new kit, available autumn 2013, is a remote controlled vehicle that kids can construct themselves, connect the batteries and control using a smartphone or tablet.

The car comes with 18 Augmented Reality (AR) mats which can be placed on the floor, with each relating to a different famous place or building.

Kids drive the car along the ground by swiping their fingers on a touch screen, where they will see the Smart Car exploring a full virtual city.

The car will retail at around £99.99, up from its previous £79.99 price tag. This is because the the car now has motors on all four wheels for extra stability and smoothness, as opposed to just two.

"The price increase reflects the changes made to the actual model, and what the end user would receive in the box," read a statement from Thames & Kosmos.

The Concept Car itself can be constructed into eight different models.
