Perfect your game idea at the next Board Game Club event

Lesley Singleton, co-founder of Board Game Club, explains why the event is a great place to showcase inventors' new games.

Board Game Club has always been incredibly supportive of the inventor community and independent games producers, just as we are the big brands and their new releases.

We aim to provide a friendly, fun and informal platform for people to showcase their new games to both face-to-face gaming fans and people from the industry alike.

Our nights attract a real mix of toy and games industry professionals, games designers, brand managers, fellow PRs as well as press and reviewers who are on the hunt for the next hidden gem, so it’s a no-brainer that it’s a decent place to try out your game, get feedback and even network with individuals who can help with various elements of bringing your game to market.

Although we welcome people bringing their own games along, we do always want to maintain the quality of our carefully-curated games menu: we have to ensure that any games featured at our events fit with the theme of the night, if there is one, and also that there aren’t too many games of the same type.

So we simply ask inventors to either send us the game in advance so that we can make sure it’s a good fit (and also not a waste of their time if it isn't something that we feel will work for our crowd!) or to email us an overview.

We have no issue whatsoever with games being at prototype stage. Indeed, In A Bind is now a regular favourite each month and we’re still using a fairly primitive prototype/print-n-play version!

Each month we welcome more and more new inventors and there’s a real buzz within that community, it’s truly thriving.

Board Game Club is a brilliant place to nurture that even further and it’s great to see friendships – and businesses – forming so naturally among likeminded, creative people.

We’ve set up the Facebook page so that Board Game Club guests can not only be kept informed of future events, but can also connect with each other after the events and continue their conversations.

Peter and I are both so passionate about helping people discover new games from established brands and from those entirely new to the sector, and it’s great to be able to provide inventors with the opportunity to show off their creativity.

We get genuinely excited when we see prototypes being pulled from jacket pockets – you just never know what’s going to happen, or whether the elusive ‘next big thing’ might be born out of a Board Game Club event.

It’s certainly beginning to feel like it will be!
