Family Gamer TV's Andy Robertson believes the sequel could see the firm fling themselves into new markets.

After moving over two billion downloads with 14 Angry Bird games, today Rovio revealed the first proper follow up to the original: Angry Birds 2.

The game will be revealed in full at two events in New York and San Francisco. The line up shown on the preview poster match the cast and art style of the original game and upcoming Angry Birds movie.

Having spun off 14 different Angry Birds games from the original without feeling the need to start counting, it’s an interesting move for Rovio to add the '2' moniker to this title.

It suggest this is a substantial step forwards for them.

It is possible this will see them move into new markets, such as console games or toys to life. Having dipped their toe in with Telepods and console conversations Rovio may be after a slice of the Skylanders-style market.

It could also related to the LEGO Angry Birds physical products that were unveiled at this years San Diego Comic Con expo.

With LEGO Dimensions in the toy-game mix, a cross over between physical and virtual LEGO Angry Birds game-play wouldn’t be out of the question.

More likely this will stay on the tablet and smartphone devices of its core audience but add some new game-play elements. We’ll learn more in New York on 28th July.
