US: American Girl 'Girl of the Year' appears at Toys R Us

2017's Girl of the Year is a nod to diversity as the character suffers with a stutter.

Toys R Us has continued its partnership with American Girl for another year with the release of 2017's 'Girl of the Year' doll.

The doll, named Gabriela McBride aims to inspire diversity as the character who is gymnast and poet also suffers a stutter. The doll is designed to encourage young girls who suffer from speech impediments or indeed, any disability.

Toys R Us first partnered with American Girl last year, being the only US retailer to carry the brand with 97 dedicated shop-in-shops nationwide as well as being the exclusive carrier of the Truly Me line.

American Girl also introduced the WellieWishers line to Toys R Us in September and celebrated the grand opening of the shop-in-shops in October of 2016.
