Redakai heads to Korea

Marathon Media signs several new South Korean TV and licensing deals for the property.

A cable and satellite TV deal for the six to ten year-old boys action series has been closed with kids cable channel JEI. Broadcast will begin this month.

On the licensing front, Joon International has been appointed as CP agent while the toys will be distributed by Spin Master’s local distributor Toyskool.

Joon has also signed several key licensing deals with Zeus for role-play toys, BnB for puzzles, Elite Fancy Base for stationary, and Unicorn for stickers and activity books. The first licensed products will appear in retail outlets at the beginning of the summer.

Joon S. Choi, CEO, Joon International, commented: "We are thrilled to introduce this new and exciting boys animation property in Korea. We believe Korean boys will love the animation and will soon want the innovative TCG cards and other products.

"The local licensees we have secured for Redakai are industry leaders renown for high quality product development and will certainly contribute effectively toward creating and increasing brand awareness, together with the great support of JEI TV."

Patricia de Wilde, SVP, consumer products, Marathon Media added: "We are very confident that our partnership with Joon in Korea will be an extremely successful one, ensuring that Redakai’s first foray into the Far East market will open doors for the rest of the area.

"Joon’s vision and enthusiasm for the property has translated into an innovative and broad-based CP plan which has already shown significant results."
