Companies on board ahead of the debut of new series later this year.

MV Sports is developing a range of wheeled toys, including scooters and Rubies will produce a dress-up range for both adults and kids, based on the Thundercats characters including Lion-o and Panthro.

Also joining the licensing programme are Character World, which is planning a range of branded bedding and Panini, which will publish the first Thundercats magazine.

The new licensees join Bandai, which unveiled its new toy line at Toy Fairs in New York, London and Nuremburg.

The ThunderCats licensing programme will be supported by new content in the form of an animated series that is due to hit UK TV screens in Q3 2011 exclusively on Cartoon Network.

The series is a joint production between Warner Bros Animation (WBA) and Studio4°C, a Japanese animation studio and is a 21st century re-imagining of the iconic action-packed 1980s series.

Paul Bufton, general manager, Warner Bros Consumer Products UK commented: “We’re all incredibly excited about the return of Thundercats and we are looking forward to reinventing though carefully respecting the heritage of this classic 80s brand.

"There is an overwhelming amount of affection for Thundercats amongst parents who grew up watching the show, this means that the programme will benefit greatly from parental and nostalgic endorsement.

"With our licensee partnerships shaping up and amazing retailer feedback there is every reason to believe that ThunderCats could return to become one of the hottest boy brands of recent times.”
