Monopoly reveals new pieces

The board game has dropped three of its classic pieces after worldwide fan vote.

Monopoly has announced the results of its historic Token Madness vote.

The Thimble, Boot and Wheelbarrow pieces have been axed in favour of the Penguin, Rubber Duck and T-Rex pieces that will be introduced to all future Monopoly games alongside the Scottie Dog, Top Hat, Car, Battleship, Cat pieces.

The vote that was held from January 10th - 31st saw more than 4.3 million votes from fans around the world picking the final eight pieces from a list of sixty four.

“The Monopoly Token Madness Vote was our biggest fan-powered program to date and the global Monopoly community has spoken!” said Jonathan Berkowitz, senior vice president of marketing for Hasbro Gaming.

“The next generation of tokens clearly represents the interests of our fans around the world and we’re proud to have our iconic game impacted by the people that feel most passionate about playing it.” 

The new line up of tokens will be integrated into the next generation of Monoploy games, but in the mean tie fans can pick up the Monoploy Token Madness Edition game, which includes the 8 current tokens, and 8 golden tokens, available now.
