Mattel launches three new body types for Barbie

Kids can now get their hands on a range of new body type Barbies, including curvy, tall and petite.

Mattel has unveiled a line of three new look Barbie dolls each featuring never before seen body types for the iconic fashion doll: tall, curvy and petite.

The move, that also sees the line welcome a variety of new skin tones, hair styles and outfits, is the latest from Mattel in its efforts to encourage young girls to 'be whatever they want to be' as well as reaffirm Barbie's place as the leading fashion doll across the globe.

The new 2016 Barbie Fashionista doll line marks the first time in its 55 year history that Barbie has introduced new body types to its line, and by adding more diversity to the line - with 22 eye colours, 24 hairstyles and numerous accessories, Mattel hopes to continue a journey it set out on in 2015 to 'change the face of the brand.'

Richard Dickson, president and chief operating officer at Mattel, said: "Barbie has reflected the world girls see around them. Her ability to evolve and grow with the times, while remaining true to her spirit is central to why Barbie has remained the number one fashion doll in the world."

For Evelyn Mazzocco, senior vice president and global general manager, Barbie, the addition aims to relfect the very real differences youngsters see around them.

"Barbie has always given girls choices - from her 180 careers, to inspirational roles, to her countless fashions and accessories," she said.

"We are excited to literally be changing the face of the brand, these new dolls represent a line that is more reflective of the world girls see around them - the variety in body type, skin tones and style allows girls to find a doll that speaks to them."

The new dolls will be able to pre-order from January 28th this year.
