Guildford gets Monopoly board treatment

The city based in Surrey has been converted into the board game, which has proved to be the fastest selling version for games company, Winning Moves.

Guildford in Surrey is the latest city to join the Monopoly board, which is proving to be the ‘fastest ever selling’ version, according to Winning Moves.

After launching three weeks ago, the board has gone on to sell 4,000 copies, with Winning Moves gearing up for a third print run.

“We have developed and manufactured and sold official Monopoly boards all over the world and this is, as far as I can recall, the fastest seller,” said Winning Moves’ UK sales director, Richard Knights.

The board boasts 28 Guildford landmarks, which replace the likes of Mayfair and Park Lane from the original board.

Landmarks include the Cathedral, Castle, The University of Surrey, G Live and Guildford Spectrum.

Knights added: “At this rate come Christmas Eve the only boards that could be left will be the ones on Santa’s sleigh.”

“That’s a colossal number. Waterstone’s sold out after a few days. It’s been mayhem but nice mayhem.

“A retailer in Guildford’s rival town Woking is even selling the board. Online sales have been extremely brisk too and it appears that ex-pats as well as tourists have been buying the board across the globe.”
