Sundown Adventureland places £250,000 order for playground based on hit iPhone game
The UK’s very first Angry Birds theme park will open at the end of summer in Retford, Nottinghamshire.
It will open in Sundown Adventureland, and feature animal spring riders, swings, sandpits, climbing towers, slides and even a giant dummy catapult all based on Rovio’s hit mobile game.
Sundown Adventureland has placed a £250,000 order for the park with playground equipment manufacturer Lappset Group, which has teamed up with Rovio to launch the family-friendly parks worldwide.
Sundown’s park manager Paul Tomlinson said: “We were very keen to have an Angry Birds Activity Park at Sundown as the brand is so well known throughout the world. It’s currently one of the most downloaded games and appeals to all ages – something that was very important for us as although the park is designed for under 10s, we are keen to welcome families.
“Rovio’s Angry Birds theme, coupled with Lappset, one of the world leaders in play equipment, is a powerful combination that fits all our needs.”
Lappset’s UK MD Chris Jones added: “We are thrilled that we now know where the first park will be. There has been an awful lot of interest since the launch but it will be very exciting to actually see a completed park. My team is working hard on the plans to get it opened as soon as possible.”
Angry Birds theme parks have already launched in other territories including Finland.
The Angry Birds games have been downloaded 1bn times worldwide to date.
