Eco-friendly card game changes branding after Donald Trump associations

Eco Action Trumps is to change its name, citing the association with the US President-elect as a 'branding disaster'.

An educational card game is to undergo a name change owing to negative associations with the US President, Donald Trump.

Eco Action Trumps has been produced by the UK environmental games company Eco Action Games for the last five years.

However, the firm has since labelled the name association a ‘branding disaster’ stating that it will be ‘dumping the brand’ for fear that children would make the connection between the card game and the US President.

The BBC reports that after the new president is inaugurated in January, Eco Action Trumps will change its name to Eco Action Toppers.

“The awful irony of a positive, educational, eco-themed game bearing that man’s name became just too much for us to bear – he simply had to go,” said Paula Owen, co-founder of Eco Action Trumps.

“Working in schools since the election result, we have been struck by how much children know about Trump and what he stands for. It is becoming impossible to get our eco messages across using our card game any more as the kids now think it is about the president-elect.”

Meanwhile, Top Trumps has told followers on Twitter that it will not be making such changes to its branding, but describes itself via its Twitter account as “the world’s number one educational card game. Not affiliated with any political figure including the President-elect.”
