American Girl adds Melody Ellison to BeForever doll line

We're proud to introduce Melody and hope she'll serve as an important role model to girls,’ says American Girl’s Katy Dickson.

American Girl has added a new character to its BeForever doll line, in the form of character Melody Ellison.

American Girl hopes that the civil rights believer, chorus leader and daughter of Detroit, will inspire girls to be a force for positive growth and change.

Nine-year-old Melody has been based on a life during the 1960s, and shows how ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

"American Girl's historical characters have long been celebrated for their educational value and for helping girls discover strength of character through things that truly matter – like helping others, being a true friend, and standing up for what's right," said Katy Dickson, president of American Girl.

"We're proud to introduce Melody and hope she'll serve as an important role model to girls, giving them the courage to use their voices to speak up about what they believe in – even when it's not easy to do. A concept that's just as important today as it was over 50 years ago."

A series of stories based on Melody will also be available, whether she is in the children's choir at church or backing up her brother's Motown music.

In addition to the stories, an 18-inch doll, 1960s doll outfits, apparel for girls, accessories and a Melody block party set will be available.
